Cherry Thumbprint Christmas Cookies are a variation on the traditional thumbprint cookie – small rolled cookies with wells pressed in the center, filled with a scrumptious topping.

While old-fashioned thumbprint cookies typically hold jam and jellies, these cookies feature a festive candied cherry in the center.

The cookies are fun for children to make and are a festive addition to your Christmas cookie tray.

Prep time: 30-40 minutes
Set time: 10-12 minutes
Makes about 3 dozen cookies

Christmas Cookie Baking Tip : Chop Nuts Well Before Rolling Cookies

Chop the nuts very finely to ensure that they adhere to the Cherry Thumbprint Christmas Cookies (or other cookies with nuts layered on surfaces.)

This way, cookie surfaces will be thoroughly coated before you press your thumbprint in the center.

You can use a sharp knife to chop nuts finely or pulse them in a food processor to pulverize them. Chop nuts until they are the texture of rough sand.
