Easy Valentine Sugar Cookies: a Fun and Easy Holiday Cookie Recipe

Make these Easy Valentine Sugar Cookies from your favorite sugar cookie mix. The cookies are molded into small balls and rolled in Valentine decorations or colored sugar. They flatten as they bake.

Or you can use your favorite sugar cookie recipe instead of a sugar cookie mix. In that case, simply mix together the dough according to your recipe directions and pick up with this recipe beginning on step 3.

Prep time: 20-30 minutes

Bake time: 7-9 minutes

Makes about 3 dozen cookies

Ingredients

Sugar cookie mix (16 -18 ounces), such as Betty Crocker® Sugar Cookie Mix

½ cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, softened

1 egg

Red, pink, and white cookie decorations, nonpareils, accents, or colored sugar

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 375ºF. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
   
   
2. In a medium bowl, using an electric mixer on medium speed, combine cookie mix, butter, and egg, scraping the bowl constantly until well mixed. Dough will be soft and thick.
   
   
3. Pour cookie decorations into a shallow bowl.
   
   
4. Scoop dough into scant 1-inch balls and roll them in between the palms of your hands until smooth. Set balls, 2 or 3 at a time, in the bowl with decorations. Use a spoon to gently roll balls, making sure they are completely covered with decorations. Place balls in 2 inches apart on the prepared cookie sheets.
   
   
5. Bake cookies for 7-9 minutes or until they are set but have not begun to brown. Remove baking sheets from the oven.
   
   
6. Let cookies cool for a minute on baking sheets before using a spatula to remove them from the sheet to a cooling rack.
   Allow cookies to cool completely. Store in an airtight container.
