Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies: Easy Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe Variation

In a delicious twist, these Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies are a variation of the traditional chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Most peanut butter cookies are molded cookies. They are formed as balls, set on baking sheets, and pressed on the surface with tines in a crisscross pattern.

Yet this recipe acts as like most chocolate chip cookies – as a drop cookie. You form them by dropping or pushing spoonfuls of cookie dough onto the baking sheet. During baking, the mounds of dough flatten and spread.

This particular chocolate chip cookie recipe produces cookie dough that is softer than most other chocolate chip cookies, thanks to the peanut butter and a lower-than-usual oven temperature (325º F).

It’s super easy because it has just 8 ingredients, which are measured in simple proportions, all 1 or 2 (1 cup, 2 cups.)

Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies from The Cookie Elf

Prep time: about 10 minutes

Baking time: 10-14 minutes

Makes about 4 dozen cookies

Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine, room temperature

1 cup peanut butter

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed brown sugar

2 eggs

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

2 cups (12-ounce bag) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions from Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies

  1. Preheat oven to 325º F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.

  2. Combine all-purpose flour and baking soda in a medium bowl. Set aside.

  3. In a separate bowl, using an electric mixer on medium speed, cream butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and peanut butter until light and fluffy. Add eggs. Mix until blended.

  4. Gradually stir dry ingredients into creamed mixture, a little at a time, until well blended. Fold in chocolate chips to dough, mixing them in with a large spoon.

  5. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls onto prepared baking sheets, 2 inches apart.

  6. Bake 10-14 minutes until cookies are lightly brown around the edges. Do not over bake.

  7. Remove cookie sheets from the oven. Allow cookies to sit for 5 minutes before using a spatula to transfer them to a wire rack. Cool completely.

  8. Store cookies in an airtight container.

Special Baking Tips for Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies

  • Chunk-style peanut butter makes the cookies crunchier. For a smoother, softer texture, use creamy-style peanut butter.

  • For an easy, no-mess way to measure peanut butter, coat the measuring cup with cooking spray before you spoon in the peanut butter.

  • To give cookies an even better appearance, press extra chocolate chips onto the tops of cookies before baking them.
