This Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies recipe combines two distinctly American flavors: brownies and chocolate chips.
There are all kinds of variations for this recipe. In fact,
you can use any brownie recipe and chocolate chip cookie dough recipe and layer
This version of easy to make brownies is so simple. It
combines two mixes with a bit of extra miniature chocolate chips sprinkled on
top. Plus, you can make these brownies ahead of time and cut them when you’re
ready to serve them (if you can hide them from your family long enough.)

1 18-ounce brownie mix (or your favorite brownie recipe)
2/3 cup vegetable oil
¼ cup water
Cookie Dough Layer
1 16-18 ounce pouch chocolate chip cookie dough mix (or your
favorite chocolate chip cookie dough recipe without the eggs)
½ cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, softened
3 tablespoons water
½ cup semisweet miniature chocolate chips
Directions for Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies Recipe
- Preheat oven to 350º F. Line an 8 x 8 baking pan with
aluminum foil or parchment paper. Lightly spray foil or paper with vegetable
- Pour brownie mix, vegetable oil, water, and eggs into a
medium bowl. Stir ingredients together with a large spoon until blended, about
50-60 strokes, until dry mix particles are absorbed.
- Pour brownie batter into prepared pan. Spread evenly. Bake
26-32 minutes until set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Do not over bake. Set brownies on a wire rack to cool completely.
- In a medium bowl, using an electric mixer on medium speed,
combine chocolate chip cookie dough mix, butter, and water thoroughly. Dough
will be thick.
- Use moistened fingers to pat cookie dough evenly over
brownie surface. Smooth the cookie dough surface with an angled spatula.
Sprinkle extra miniature chocolate chips over cookie dough to create an
attractive appearance (and add just a bit more chocolate to the cookies!)
- Cover the brownies with plastic wrap. Set the pan in the
refrigerator for an hour or more until firm (up to a day.)
- To cut brownies, remove the pan from the refrigerator and
take off the plastic wrap. Grasp ends of foil or parchment paper, lift brownies
out of the pan, and set them on a cutting surface. Peel away foil or paper. Use
a sharp knife to cut brownies in five rows of five (or any other size you
